First babies born at QA celebrate their birthdays

Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust held a special birthday party for the first babies that were born at the new Queen Alexandra Hospital on 30 June 2009.

About 20 babies and their parents attended the party, including Lexi-Lou Stevie Cobb, who was the first baby born at the new maternity unit at 7.04pm on 30 June 2009, weighing four pounds 10 and a half ounces.

Jayne Jempson, Acting Head of Midwifery at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust, said: "We are very proud of our state-of-the-art maternity unit at Queen Alexandra Hospital.

"Since the unit opened a year ago today, about 5,000 babies have been born here.  We felt it would be good to mark the occasion with the babies who are celebrating their first birthdays."
