First baby born in the brand new maternity unit

The first baby was born on day one in Portsmouth’s new, state-of–the-art maternity unit at Queen Alexandra Hospital. Proud mother, Louise Cobb was delighted at the safe arrival of Lexi-Lou Stevie Cobb at 7.04pm on the 30th June weighing in at 4 pounds 10 and a half ounces.

Donna Ockenden, Chief Midwife and Divisional Clinical Director of Women’s and Children’s Services at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust, said “We are delighted to have helped in the safe arrival of Portsmouth’s first baby in our new maternity unit. Staff are thrilled to finally be here in their new unit. Portsmouth Hospitals Maternity and neonatal services are already acknowledged as one of the safest services in the UK for both mothers and babies. We have been working hard to ensure that babies across Portsmouth and the surrounding area will continue to receive excellent high quality care in our new high-tech maternity unit".
