For some people, there is nowhere more perfect to welcome the newest addition to their family than in the privacy and comfort of their own home.

For women who have had an absolutely normal pregnancy, familiar surroundings from the beginning of labour right through to birth without any emergency travel can prove relaxing and of great emotional and psychological assurance.

Indeed, there is evidence to suggest that, for those who are in a position to give birth at home, the less medical intervention there is in a delivery, the more straightforward and beneficial the birth can be for both mother and baby.

Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust is fully supportive of those who wish to give birth in their own homes. Homebirths will be attended by one of our fully qualified Community Midwives who will bring knowledge, experience and reassurance into your home for your delivery.
